Max is currently completing an honours research project in collaboration with Phillip Island Nature Parks. This project investigates whether accelerated growth following food shortage during early development can have an impact on adult fitness in Little Penguins. This will be accomplished by analysing chick growth during and after periods of poor food availability to detect any growth “catch-up”, then observing their later survival or reproductive success.
